Lucky Stiff is based on the novel “The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo,” by Michael Butterworth. The music was written by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens wrote the lyrics. It features a cast of finely drawn characters who are striving to wrest the inheritance from Harry Witherspoon. The terms of the will require that Harry take his uncle’s corpse on vacation to Monte Carlo. Failure to do so will result in the inheritance going to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn. Also badly in need of $6 million are Rita La Porto who has embezzled that amount from her employer and blamed her brother Vinnie Di Ruzzio. The show enjoyed a long Off-Broadway run in New York and was a hit In London.
